Robin Sanders is truly a diversified individual in both his work experience and his personal life, making him this month’s Image Audiovisuals’ Employee Spotlight. Robin wears many hats. By day, Robin is the Vice President of Business Development, where he facilitates the continued growth of ImageAV. In his personal time, he may be found piloting a Cessna or supporting the MS Foundation by raising money riding in the MS150.
We took some time to get to know Robin better and here’s what he had to say:
How did you get into the AV industry, and how did you get to your current position?
Robin: “I completed an Associate of Arts in Multimedia at UAT in Arizona and a Bachelor of Science in Business Technology Management at Regis University in Denver. I believe that real life experience is much more valuable than college degrees, but I’m certain it has helped “sharpen my saw” and put some theory behind my experience. Since then, I have served in the audio visual industry for over 17 years. I started as an AV coordinator at a large hotel property in Arizona. I have also held a number of leadership positions, including director of sales, director, team leader, area manager, and most currently VP Business Development at Image Audiovisuals.”
With all of your experience in the AV industry, what drew you to ImageAV as a company you wanted to work for?
Robin: “When I first spoke with Dave and Diana, they said the best way to grow a company is to first take care of its employees; thus, happy employees will provide the best customer service possible. Those words certainly resonated with me. Being a part of a team and assisting with producing flawless events from the beginning to the end is something I love doing. ImageAVs’ vision and culture coincide with my belief on how to grow a business and that’s what drew me to this company.”
What sets ImageAV apart from other companies and makes you passionate about working here?
Robin: “Honestly, it’s the people! I would put our team up against any AV team in the industry. Our intellectual capital is the biggest differentiator and the best asset Image Audiovisuals possesses.”
Let’s switch gears and learn more about who you are outside of the office. Tell us a bit about your family.
Robin: “This year, Deena and I will have been married 27 years. We are the proud parents of two great kiddos, Jaden and Sadee. Not a single day goes by that they don’t surprise us with something—good, bad, interesting, or just plain ole funny.”
How do you recharge and relax?
Robin: “I enjoy piloting single engine aircraft, although I have been too busy to get in the air as much as I’d like. Flying recharges me like nothing else—a totally different perspective from the normal day-to-day activities. Recently, I have taken an interest in piloting drones—a close second to flying Cessnas!”
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Robin: “Not to sound too serious and sappy, but I would request the power to heal children from illness. One of my brothers passed away from leukemia at a young age, and I often think how much better the world would have been if he were still here. There’s a place in my heart for the families and children who have to endure such afflictions.”
What do you consider the best part about living and working in Denver?
Robin: “I lived in Phoenix for 17 years and really enjoyed certain aspects of it. One of the first things I appreciated about living in Colorado is how wonderful the summers are. A person can actually get outside and enjoy several summer activities in Colorado. Living through the Arizona summer heat can be challenging; practically everyone rushes from one air conditioned building to the next to endure it. Currently, the hottest thing in Arizona is our AV team! There is something to be said about living in a state that has all four seasons with beautiful summers.”
